Men of Valour Conference 2009

This program of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in North America held at the Aviation Ballroom A of the International Conference Centre between April 17 and 18, 2009. The presenters were pastor James Fadele, Femi Olawale, Olayinka Dada and Deacon Daniel Monehin. The theme of the program was "Joy at Home."

Pastor Fadele's message was on wisdom, understanding and knowledge. The three concepts yield different results. knowledge is information acquired by reading, understanding is use of knowledge for a purpose and wisdom is the application of knowledge and understanding to life situations for successful outcomes. He commented on the need to communicate with our spouses. Women speak more words daily than men. our messages are 7% content, 38% tone and 55% non-verbal.

Deacon Monehin spoke on finances. The need to manage finances well will create a happy home. Do not rely on credit, save, tithe and be financially literate.

The breakout session focused on communication in the home under various situations. Care and balance were suggested for raising our children in North America. North America is not Nigeria. Your views as a parent is not necessary right all the time.

Sexual issues were raised during the discussion. Oral sex is not using the body as designed by God. Viagara was discussed - use only if recommended. Pornography not good - it makes one despise the physical woman.

Yemi Ladipo gave me a lift home the first night. I was late for breakfast the following morning. It was a nice gathering and time in God's presence.

Destined for Leadership

Am I a leader? leadership is man's greatest need as describe with the sheep and shepherd illustration by Jesus in John 10. As a leader, if my vision is big enough I will need people to support me e.g. Jesus called the 12 disciples to support his work.

To lead I need the following:
- love God and people 1 John 4 v20-21
- be willing to serve Mark 10
- have a vision
- be able to communicate
- be persistent
- be pro active: make things happen
- delegate tasks

According to John C Maxwell in the 21 laws of leadership, there are levels of leadership.
- position: basic.
- permission: leadership approved by followers
- production: cooperation between leader and follower to achieve goals
- People development: followers are trained and allowed to function as leaders
- Person Hoot: leader becomes revered because of success e.g. Nelson Mandela

7 days - will get clearer vision
30 days - will receive good news.

Preacher: Rev Sam Adeyemi

Training for Reigning

The message started with exhortation to be comfortable with royalty or with our kingship. The image inside affects the growth outside. What do I believe about myself? Psalm 139 v14-15.

I cannot earn everything e.g. salvation. I can however inherit it. Inheritance prevents generations from working for the same things, thus it speeds up progress.

I should desire to learn and grow according to 1 peter 2 v2. Several people will train and teach me, but the number one coach I have is the Holy Spirit according to Acts 1 v8. When the holy Spirit teaches me, the following happen
- influences my thinking Isaiah 55 v9-, Ephesians 1 v18
- influences my emotions Isaiah 61 v1-, Romans 14 v17. As a leader you cannot be a pessimist or be moody
- affects my physical body Romans 8 v11 e.g. i will eat healthy foods
- develop God's character Hebrews 1 v9
- empowers me for service e.g. Daniel, Joseph and Jesus. Rom 8 v14.

If God gives me power will I do what He wants me to do with it? Exodus 23 v20, Isaiah 63 v9-10 and Ephesians 4 v25.

I need to have a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. He is a person and not a thing. He can be grieved.

Preacher: Rev Sam Adeyemi.

I am a King

God is a King of Kings Psalm 22v8, 145 v13, Daniel 4 v34, 7v14, Isaiah 46 v9-11. His kingship is not in dispute. God sees himself as a king and does not need confirmation from any one as to his kingship. A king has authority, influence and power. A king's influence brings money, food and other material things. Seek first the influence and the material things will be added. I am a king who should seek influence.

Kings focus on getting influence over a territory. It is the duty of others to bring material things e.g. food to the King. The size of the territory determines the amount of influence of a King. I should strive to increase the area of my influence. David sought influence with God and he was made a King. I should continue with my actions today that bring me into contact with God.

In the beginning God made us as kings, in his own image. Adam brought slavery into the world, Christ came to restore my Kingship Psalm 115 v16. I should behave as such in my walking, talking and relationship . God wanted Moses to lead his people hence he made him to trained in Pharaohs house Ecclesiastes 10 v 16-17.

This is part of the Making of Champions 2009 programme of the House of Praise, Mississauga, ON. The preacher was Rev Sam Adeyemi.

Making of a King: In the Palace

A palace is a place of power, privilege, possibilities and probation. It is a place of intrigue, further promotion and destruction.the palce can be a church, work place, business or club.

Before you get to your palace you will go through someonelse's palace. The palace is not the throne, it only prepares you for the throne.

1 Samuel 18 v1-5 we see the steps to the palace highlighted. first is divine favour and gifting, followed by distinguished personal achievements and most importantly discovery by the King.

Palace Regulations: 1. there is only one king at a time. 2.Only the king sits on the throne in his place 3. Every one serves at the pleasure of the King 4. Proximity to the throne does not confer royalty on you.

There are six kinds of people in the palace
1. Seekers: looking for adventure, fun or short-cuts to the top. Have no loyalty.
2. Settlers: looking for security and well-being. They have no achievements.
3. Servers: looking for service and acceptance. Have no other goals.
4. Schemers: looking for power and control. they initiate trouble and divide the kingdom.
5. Students: looking for knowledge and endorsement. leave after learning.
6. Sons: looking for responsibility and spirit.

Important things to do in the Palace
1. Secure the King's throne: bury all personal agendas. Ensure the king lives long. Stay away from aggrieved servants.loyally undertake the Kings errand.
2. Stick to protocol: protect privileged information. stay within ranks and mandate. lay your victories at the feet of the king. wait to be asked before you sit in a place of honour.
3. Strive for Statesmanship: learn language of tact and diplomacy. study and understand the complexity of human nature. build useful alliances and relationships. take on bold and challenging assignments.
4. Sow seeds of destiny: invest in acts that will yeild favourable results in your future. Neer diminish the honour of the king you are serving. Sow seeds of total faithfulness.

Wrong palace attitudes include: arrogance, attacks, apathy, avarice and anger.

There are still other stages before you get to your throne such as wilderness experience, victory over enemies and so on. however, this 3 part series is enough to get you started,

Dancing you way to the Throne

It was a bouquet of melodious music on Sunday September 13, 2009 at the International Conference Center, Airport Road, Mississauga,ON from 12 noon to about 4pm. The theme of the praise, worship and celebration was Dancing your way to the Throne. It was part of the making of Champions Conference 2009.

In attendance and performance was Pastor Richard Brown, a Jamaican and psalmist; Alvin Slaugther, a contemporary gospel singer and Perfected Praise of the House of Praise choir. It was a rich experience. Alvin slaughter made a call for healing and pronounced blessing on some people singled out by the spirit of God.

pastor Wale Akinsiku preached on why we were dancing our way to the throne. Using mark 14 v3-9, he explained that dancing gets you God's undivided attention and singles one out for favour. The benefits of getting the attention of God are
1. Freedom Matthew 15 v21-28
2. Open Eyes to see future opportunities Mark 10 v46
3. Fruitfulness
4. Favour 1 Kings 10 v9-13
5. Unprecendented financial prosperity 2 Chronicles 20
The action required is (a) give heartfelt praise Psalm 149 v3, 108 v3 and (b) give sacrificial offering 2 Samuel 6 v13,17. I offered $100 as a pledge.

Perfected Praise led songs from East to West Africa. The crowd went wild at the singing of Igwe, my Lord. The service ended with the song.

Making of a King: Solving Giant Problems

There is a customized problem that only one anointed person can solve. The problem cannot be evaded. It is designed by God to reward his anointed. The giant problem is overwhelming, huge, mystifying, mind-boggling and complicated that a society cannot solve but has a high-value.

According to Isaiah 10 v27, the anointing oil breaks the yoke. Without a yoke (burden) there is nothing for the anointing to do. The yoke restricts movement and keeps one from taking his/her own path. If the two animals in a yoke are not unequally yoked it will destroy the weaker animal, that is why God says "DO NOT BE UNEQUALLY YOKED.".

The kind of anointing will determine the type of problems faced e.g. an Esther will face beauty contests. The measure of anointing determines measure of assignment. The measure of anointing is based on past faithfulness i.e. he who is faithful in little will be faithful over much." The reward of yoke breaking is equal to the yoke broken. Faithfulness leads to anointing which allows me to break yokes and I am rewarded based on the value of the yoke.

Goliath in I Samuel 17 v3-11 was a real problem for Israel. Goliath was a tall man at 9ft 9in (1 cubit=1 1/2ft,1 span=9inches) while Saul was the tallest man in Israel at about 6ft or 7ft. Goliath (giant problems) drive pretenders away, determine creative and innovative responses, delivers high value to its conqueror and only work when within range.

Goliath will show up at the right up. God times everything perfectly. Be prepared, because the first attempt must work or the Goliath will know the strategy and strike. I can either respond with fear (flight) or faith (fight).

The faith response is based on preparation ahead of opportunity; gather success stories i.e. accomplishments; seize my kairos moment-have to stop when others are fleeing; use and develop myself in my area of strength (competence); and go out boldly in God's name.

Defeating the giant problem (Goliath) leads to rewards 1 Samuel 17 v25-26; recognition in high places 1 Samuel 17 v55-58; respect in the community 1 Samuel 18 v5-7; and resentment of the envious.

Making of A King - Chosen

The topic was picked in line with the conference theme. The pastor exhorted us that a King is a Champion.
How to measure a King
1. Man of God: a King must have moral authority (character) to lead. He must obey God.
2. Man of War: a king must be ready to fight to defend his people/land/possession.
3. Man of Justice: a King must rule with fairness and sincerity. No divide and conquer techniques as advocated by common leadership styles.
4. Provide abundance: a King must provide abundance or be prosperous so his people can eat and drink.

David will be discussed against these measures. Am I up to this measures in my family? community? work place?

In God's system, we can all be kings. It is the scarcity environment and poverty mentality in us that builds "only me must succeed" attitude.

In 1 Samuel 16 v1, God chose a king himself. May He choose me as king for my generation. In v6-7, God tells Samuel that the physical(outside) does not determine who a king is. God uses the heart which He can see to choose a King. Saul was chosen on physical qualities and he failed God. In v11-13, David was not considered worthy to be invited to the sacrifice of Samuel, but when invited God selected him and he was anointed by Samuel. This implies that even when I am not where decisions are being taken, when God has chosen me they will wait for me.

David was disadvantaged, however that brought him closer to God. What do I let my disadvantages do to me - bring closer to God or bitterness? DAvid had the following going for him
+ position: eight child and youngest. 8 is the number of new beginnings.
+ personality: he was alert (bright eyes), detail oriented, good-looking, ruddy(?)
+ occupation: he was a keeper not a loser, protector not a squanderer.

1 Samuel 13 v14; 15 v27-28 informs us that David was better than Saul. How? A comparison shows that Saul was a loser, reckless, indecisive and unprepared; while David was a keeper, careful, committed and prepared. The anointing does not change the man as both men were anointed by Samuel. David received the Holy Spirit immediately while it took Saul a long time.

God views the heart from
+ what we value or treasure in life
+ what we use our energies for
+ how we respond to challenges
+ how we acquire and process knowledge. Use of words.

God will use people like Samuel to make me a King. Samuel will Elevate me from obscurity, Endorse my selection, Expose my character to everyone, Empower me with boldness and Encourage me to greater heights. It is good to have a Samuel who sees our potential and great end than a Jesse who knows our beginnings and limitations.

The anointing is used to show (1) God's approval (2) separate for God's use (3) stir up weighty ideas (4) surround with favour to carry out the work.

David was anointed in the midst of his brothers (who might be jealous, angry, etc) and in Psalm 23 v4-5 the anointing and table were set in the presence of the enemies. When GOd has chosen me, he will confirm it in the presence of enemies and they cannot do anything about it.

In Canada, God has chosen me SEYI Osunade and the enemies (racist, employer, examinations, etc) cannot do anything about it. Amen.
